delta-Valerolactone is an excellent organic synthesis intermediate with a wide range of applications, such as in the synthesis of optical active substances, biopharmaceutical materials, polyester, polylactide, etc. It is prone to ring opening polymerization, which can not only undergo its own polymerization reaction to produce high relative molecular weight polyester, but also undergo ring opening polymerization with other esters to form polylactide. Poly (lactide) synthesized from materials such as δ - pentolactone has good biodegradability and is used in the medical field to treat wounds. It has the characteristics of strong adhesion and easy absorption.
