*4-Hydroxy TEMPO has a good polymerization inhibition effect on acrylic esters, methyl methacrylate esters, acrylic acid, acrylonitrile, styrene, and butadiene. Its polymerization inhibition performance is superior to that of phenolic, aromatic amine, ether, quinone, and nitro compounds.

*4-Hydroxy TEMPO can be used as a spin label for studying biological compounds and polymers; Spin labeling reagents are used to identify the binding sites of NK1 receptor antagonists and agonists, and can also be used for electron spin resonance spectroscopy to determine the generation of reactive oxygen species in myocardium; TEMPOL can protect cells overexpressing CYP2E1 from toxic damage caused by arachidonic acid; Used for the preparation of fluorine labeled TEMPO derivatives through derivatization of TEMPO propargyl ether and subsequent "click" reaction with fluoroazide; Used as an efficient catalyst in the reaction of alcohol oxidation with bleach.
