[Typical Properties]

Fluorescein Sodium is odorless and has hygroscopic properties. Soluble in water, the solution appears yellow red with strong yellow green fluorescence. It disappears after acidification and reappears after neutralization or alkalization. It is slightly soluble in ethanol and almost insoluble in chloroform and ether. Aqueous solution and plasma are isotonic.

[Usage]

*Sodium fluorescein is a diagnostic drug for fundus imaging. It cannot stain normal corneal epithelium, but can stain damaged corneal epithelium green, which can display corneal damage, ulcers, and other lesions.

*Sodium fluorescein was used as a fluorescent tracer to study the permeability of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and blood-spinal cord barrier (BSCB) in rodent models. The organic anion transport peptide (OATP) mediated drug transport of Chemicalboo in liver cells was studied using this dye as a probe substrate. Sodium fluorescein is also used for in situ solutes to enter the bone through fluorescence recovery after photodegradation.

*Fluorescein sodium salt is used as a solute to study microvascular permeability. It has been used as a testing molecule to study the permeability of the blood barrier.
